Shaken

I preordered this quite awhile ago and started to read it last night. Fascinating publishing concept made possible by ereader technology. You can read the same novel with flashbacks or in chronological order.

Something Missing

This book is totally fascinating! It is funny but thought-provoking. It is not a mystery but it is mysterious. The bad guy is a good guy, but he has some disturbing quirks.
Love it!
I'm so excited that I now am able to add a sample of the book right to the blog! Check it out and let me know what you think.

The Pawn

I just finished The Pawn by Steven James. It was so suspenseful and kept me guessing right up till the end. I loved the character of the daughter. She has such a combination of intelligence and creativity! I have a feeling she will be making major appearances in the remaining books in the series, and believe me, they are all on my "to be read" list!
Other books in the series are The Rook, The Knight and The Bishop.

I'll be Kindling this

I can't read this yet, but I have pre-ordered so that as soon as March 22, 2011 hits I'll have it.
I just can't get enough of these characters.

Amazon Customer Service

I've been telling everyone who asks my opinion of the various e-readers available. One of the main points in favor of the Kindle is that Amazon has a reputation for quality customer service. This weekend I experienced it for myself! On Thursday late afternoon my Kindle froze up when I tried to wake it. I was on the phone with a Kindle customer service representative within minutes thanks to Amazon's call me back feature.
By Saturday I had a new Kindle in my hands and a prepaid mailing label to send back the other one.
Absolutely the best!

Current Reads

With the Collections feature on my Kindle I have created a grouping I call "Current Reads" because quite frankly even I tend to forget what I'm Kindling now.
Here's a quick glimpse at the eclectic list I have in that Collection right now.
Sweet Dreams and Flying Machines A thriller at a super-reasonable price!
The Pillars of the Earth The last post told you how that one ended up there.
The Complete Father Brown Mysteries This is a collection of short stories. So I like this in my "Current Reads" for those times I don't have a huge chunk of reading time.
Thank God It's Monday This is a great business resource, and all reading and now work makes Joyce an ineffective employee.

A Funny Thing Happened

A funny thing happened on my way to reading the plethora of unread books on my Kindle.

I read on a discussion board that a mini-series had been made based on The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. I’ve loved this book since I read it on my Kindle over a year ago. In fact I enjoyed it so much that I sent a hard copy version to my son. This and its companion World Without End are two of the few books I did NOT archive but retained on my Kindle when I finished reading them.

So naturally I had to investigate this mini-series, found it was being shown on Starz and also streaming through Netflix. I watched the first episode and began to wonder about a few things in the book. I was going to search in the book (what a handy feature of the Kindle that is!) to get some answers. Next thing I knew I was hooked into the book again.

So now the question is to I view an episode and then read to catch up in the book or do I read ahead and watch the episode later. Hmmm???  I’ll have to puzzle on that.

More Excitement

I just want to share an update.
My Dad LOVES his Kindle. So if any of you are contemplating gifting a Kindle to a senior citizen, don't hesitate. He finds it simple to use, easy on the eyes and really appreciates being able to adjust the font size.
Yay!!!
My DAD just ordered a Kindle. So happy for him. He will love the fact that he will always have "large print" editions! He might just need to get a cover for it for Christmas don't you think?

Audio Video

This is so exciting! If you have the Kindle app for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch you can get Kindle books with embedded audio and video links. How great to be able to see a bird illustration and listen to its call.

Karen Hasley

I'm deviating a little bit from my initial intent with this blog. I am NOT Kindling these books because they are not yet available on the Kindle. However, I so enjoyed them, that I'm recommending them to all of you.
Karen has written a set of four titles which are such accurate portrayals of the historical times in which they are set. Begin with Lily's Sister and go through the rest. You will love them.
Here's the full list:
Lily's Sister
Waiting for Hope
Where Home Is
Circled Hearts
I can't wait for book five.

Five Smooth Stones

This has to be one of the greatest things about reading books on my Kindle...finding former favorites which are out of (paper) print.
I remember being so impressed with this powerful novel the first time I read it years ago, and here it is! I can read it again.

Version 2.5 Now Available

Today's post does not involve what I'm reading on my Kindle, but what I'm doing on it.
This afternoon I received the 2.5.2 software update, so I'm busy creating Collections to organize my library. Thank you, Amazon, for this great feature.

They Almost Always Come Home

I am totally amazed by how much I am enjoying this book. The emotions are realistic and honest.

Thursday, May 20, 2010

After having this one recommended so often, I've started to read Outlander. Of course now I will HAVE to read the whole series because that's the way it's done!

Update: June 4...Well, yes, it WAS great, and I'm now reading Dragonfly in Amber.

Breach of Trust

Since this is free right now, it's a great time to start reading a new series. I'm not far into it yet. The storyline is interesting. Some of the descriptive phrases are a little stilted.

Death of a Trophy Wife

I didn't know what to expect from this book. I "purchased" it when it was free, and it was excellent. I can start the series (this was book 8) and still have plenty of affordable reading. Combines mystery and humor. I laughed out loud a couple of times.
Book 1 is This Pen For Hire

Sunday, May 2, 2010

WOW! I just started reading Wounded Healer and realized that sometime ago I had read the second book in the series, Warrior's Heart. I enjoyed it so much at the time, now will have to go back and catch up on the entire series.

I am loving Day Trips to Narnia by Bruce T. Forbes. I found this one on Feedbooks.com, and it is a delight!
